In general teenagers start smoking because they are pushed by some causes such as: peer pressure, curiosity and being sophisticated.
Teenagers who smoke cigarettes know that smoking harm their health but they continue to smoke because with smoking they think that they are cool. Drinking alcohol in early teenage years and parents who smoke are also influential factors which encourage teenagers to start smoking.
In a poll of teens, aged between 16 and 18 years old, who bought their own cigarettes, most were found to have started smoking as young as 12 or 13 years old.
For example Irish teenage smoking cigarettes continues to pose a real danger to the lives of young people with short-term consequences on health, including respiratory and non-respiratory effects, addiction to nicotine and the associated risk of other drug use.
Other researchers found that none of the teenagers considered their lifestyles to be healthy, with smoking too much, drinking too much and eating too much junk food.
But they also don’t believe what they see on anti-smoking ads that use to show images which depict the health consequences of smoking.
The Office of Tobacco Control estimates that 16 percent of Irish people aged 12 to 17 years old currently smoke.

Researchers said that one of the most important health decisions that a young person can make is to not start smoking. This is the bravest decision which can be made by a teenager.
